| | loud laughter of our enthu QA team | ] | Wonder why most family weddings, Upanayanams and Chowlams have to be scheduled in the scorching summer heat! Owing to this my Ma in-law(MIL) has to make frequent trips to Mangalore, where our relatives are more densely populated than dust mites ;) ( ofcourse no offense intended) . Most often than not my FIL accompanies her dutifully, however on the most recent trip, he decided to stay back.
When its’ just the 2 of us (hubby n me) things r pretty casual ( nice way of saying in-disciplined),But since FIL would be around, I was conscious of going about the domestic chores just the way MIL would have done them. A couple of days back, when I returned from office, was all geared and keen to wrap up the domestic chores swiftly . I was in for a surprise to see that all the washed utensils had been wiped and placed in the kitchen cabinet. ( though not in their designated positions, but wherever there was adequate space ;). Even the dried clothes were folded ( I must admit though, I have not come across any man who can fold clothes as neatly as a woman.. we women have achieved a certain degree of perfection in such tasks ;))). Infact even the daal n potatoes were preconfigured (boiled) to be released in the kadai!! Amazing! My FIL had been such an adorable sweetheart.. I told him tht he need not have taken the trouble, n I would have done it myself. He casually declared that he was anyways free and knew I’d be tired back from work. So sweet, I thought to myself :)
I have my own reservations when it comes to elderly gentlemen, and am somehow not programmed to get too buddy-buddy or chatty with them. I really could not get myself to tell him tht hes been an absolute sweetheart ;). So I have planned for a sweet “bahu gesture “ this weekend. I plan to teach FIL how to customize and use an iGoogle page, perhaps add some gadgets where he can get live updates about the bear-bull story, wheather the Indian markets r sneezing, coughing or down n out ;), some astrological predictions ( which claim to seal ones fate), n maybe some gadgets to provide gardening dos n donts.
Hmmm…. As for me am just smiling away thinking of the thoughtfulness bestowed on me ;)) |

| | Eno ondthara | ] | Had been to Mysore over the Weekend , and got a chance to witness a fine Musical performance which was organised as part of the Ganesh Chathurthi festivities. It was a Jugalbandhi concert by Kadri Gopalnath playing the saxaphone and a Mr Mazumdar playing the flute( Off late my memory is letting me down big time .. especially in remebering peoples names.. which often puts me in embarassing situations ;)). It was such a soulful rendition and the skilled musicians just mesmerised the entire audience. The experience was exhilarating to say the least transported us to an altogether different world :).
The diversity of the audience was what surprised me this time around.. along with the usual grey haired pensioners and saree clad ladies with "mallige" adorning their tresses there were groups of young college students sporitng the "oh so trendy" look and lots a foriegners who din tire capturing every single nuance of the performance.. Must say it was an amalgamation of sorts!! Hindustani with Carnatic.. tradition with moderninty....the old with the new!!! |

| | kunidu-kunidu baare | ] | Surfing through the channels aimlessly last weekend came across this interview with Amitabh Bachhan on NDTV.One of the stories he narrated was truly inspiring and moving..
His dad had developed this habbit of taking early morning strolls in the wilderness just behind their Delhi house. In due course he had developed a fetish for rocks and boulders. He would often interpret the rocks as having some definitive forms and would bring them home to show his kids! One fine morning AB's dad woke him up and asked AB to help him move a huge rock parked at thier gate , inside their house. This rock was really humungous so their nighbours too joined them in moving the solid mass. Once the mammoth task was accomplished AB was left wondering how this rock was brought until their gate.Apparently AB's papa had moved this huge rock one inch everyday for three months and the rock finally arrived at thier residence!!
Indeed small amounts of effort put in consistently can lead to huge accomplishments!!! Driving home a point ! ain't it!!?? |

Well atleast am happy i pushed myself to do something i really love to do....
Travelling in the local bus to n fro has given me it's own share of experiences. Initially used to feel absolutely queasy and ill at ease... what with having to put up with nasty smells , some overpowering perfumes and buses bursting at it's seams!! well have totally overcome it now and it's sometimes really amusing to observe people from different walks of life with all thier absurdities LIVE:))) better than any reality show in TV u bet!!
Today had a real crazy experience in the bus on my way to work. After boarding the bus from b'nagar managed to get myself a seat somewhere midway. There was this middle aged lady seated beside me. She started off some conversation and i responded casually unaware of where it was heading towards!! The lady started by asking if am working and the if have completed my engg and then if i was a Brahmin!!?? ( now this one was uncomfortable.. wat does she have to do with my faith.) After answering affirmitively to all of the above she started glaring at me from top to bottom... i was totally bewildered n started feeling uncomfortable...then her intentions began to unravel... lady: " i know this guy who's in US . He's looking for a Brahmin girl who's preferably an engineer........" I cut her short n told her am Married!!! But that din deter her from rattling on ... " he earns a salary of 4 lakh Rs a month... very good family... lucky gal who marries him.... "blah blah blah. By then i was totally disgusted and pretended to be busy with my mobile phone. Then the lady removed a piece of paper from her hand bag and it had the so called "requirement specification" of the gal... the usual drama... ready to fly to US, tall , good family , good looking.....and she urged me to suggest her someone who satisfies her requirements... " please maa help me in this regard" Urgh such lousy and jobless Aunties... trying to find matches in the local buses and bugging strangers !!!!!
This aunty apparently has seen me multiple times waiting for the bus and told me to get back with some details of a suitable gal ( nanage enu graahachaara Kaadide Ivalige Help MaaDakke!!!).
Narrating the whole thing to my Mommy she got totally pshyched and cautioned me against potential "conmen/women" conwoman or not i guess people need to mind their own business and not invade into the privacy of strangers or ask them some totally unmindful favours.... Maybe these match making Aunties need to Get A Life!!! |

OOpsie seems like a really really long time since i last Blogged!! a whopping 1 year 1 month!!!!
Well have always been meaning to resume blogging but this ugly monster "procrastination" has this invincible, mammoth power of preventing you from propelling forward... There goes i hav finally managed to free myself from this "monster" (hopefully ;))) It feels really nice to get back n do something which u have'nt done in a long time :).
Well the weekend was great fun :)). On saturday the good ol Kittie gang met up at navya's place to wish her on her b'day. It was nearly six months since all of us met together. It's pretty amazing the way we still connect. Inspite of each of us living totally different lives, we still enjoy each others company n had loads of fun pulling each others leg, gossipping havin the typical gal talk n doing Simply TIMEPASS :)) Blissful indeed :)) thanks to nav's mom for the delicious sumptuous meal.
nav's house is really really far from mine. And breaking the distance barrier in b'lore is simply a herculean task according to me . Left in an auto with some friends on the premise that i'd be getting down at MG road n then taking a rick from there. But fortunately ,in not more than 10 minutes i found a bus bound to somewhere close to my place n immediately hopped in. At another signal i found a bus which was exactly bound to my place n hopped in again. I felt really proud of myself!!! hopping in out of buses is one thing i've really learnt since i came to b'lore.(it's atleast much much better than geting swindled by absolutely lousy auto drivers).
hmm Sunday was real relaxing.Experimental pulav turned out pretty gud ;) n mom was pleased to hear tht i managed preparing it myself :)).This time around the spice was just right else poor fil would hav to just gulp it down with lots of water ... |

| | jana-Aapka Abhijeet... | ] | Shuttling between Mysore and B’lore is mostly wat is happening these days. There have been a couple of really pleasant experiences as a part of this! The other day was surprisingly early to catch the train back to mys…. Bought tickets, reserved seats n came back to the ticket counter waitin for a friend of mine…..There was this other guy(perhaps waitin for someone else…..) striding up n down ……just like meJ…he looked strangely familiar but just cud not make out who…
After around 15 mins this guy comes up to me n asks me if i studied in xyz school …..n he was incidentally my classmate back in school(actually he had left our school in 6th or probably 7th std……) . Obviously it’s hard to recognize someone after a long time!! Apparently he had decided that he should take the risk of asking me if I was who he thought I was!!!! We caught up with the happenings in each others lives n the wait did not seem all that boring ;)…….
Yet another time as we hungry souls entered a restaurant in b’lore railway station n were just settlin down….this huge looking guy comes up to me n shakes his wet hands with me….(probably he’d just finished his breakfast..) i was almost startled at the approach …..n then I discovered that he was another school classmate of mine……n yet another time I cursed myself for failing to recognize an old friend…….(n this time I had drawn a total blank…..)
(well cancerians r supposed to be having a sharp memory ….but somehow mine let me down…) well maybe guys change a lot as years go by……
anyways guess it’s a good idea to refresh my memory looking at the old school snaps before my next trip to b’lore…… they might come in handy!!! |

| | sun zara | ] | My kid cousins ,cute gals from coorg had come down to spend their summer vacation here. It was a gr8 experience to have them around.
Neetu and viju aged 9 and 12 r thoroughly amiable. They would coax me into playing games with them n I landed up either plying board games with them or downloadin flash games from the net for them. I was also forced into watchin mr.bean on pogo n zillions of cartons on cartoon network…(which infact I started enjoyin…). They also wanted to play with the kitchen set n my mom luckily hunted down my “kasturlia” it’s a Russian kitchen set I had been gifted as a kid by my uncle. In no time they set up their “virtual restaurant” n were servin me with all the “virtual delicacies”. They used paper pieces, leaves, ear-buds and all such knick-knacks as their ingredients….n it was so much fun watchin them. Evenings wud be spent in the local park lingering around aimlessly.
Kids have this amazing ability to find pleasure in small things in life. They collected pieces of cloth ,ribbons and laces and kept them all stacked neatly. Lucky Barbie of theirs was getting a makeover!! Every night they wud demand for ice-crems n all they wanted were those humble orange and mango sticks! (and my dad was only too happy to get them…..)
We have a mango tree in our neighbour’s house…..though the biological parents of the tree r our neighbors…….since all the branches of that tree lean towards our balcony we fondly consider ourselves as it’s foster parents! One day the younger one had a huge craving for mangoes. We decided to alight the first floor balcony and steal some from there. But then there was this uncle peering from the window so I told vijeta that we wud pick up some from the terrace. But mademoiselle was just not satisfied with one mango and as soon as I went downstairs she went right under the uncle’s nose n picked a couple of juicy mangoes from the balcony! I tell u she is a gutsy child……. But I must say that stolen mangoes indeed taste better!!
It was like I had a tiny fan-following for a fortnight. They wud watch me while reading the newspaper, getting ready for college , almost everythin mundane. Children certainly emulate elders and want to grow up quickly……..but guess they fail to realize how much we miss those carefree days…There is indeed a child in everyone of us n sometimes there are instances when that child is awakened!
Now that these cute cousins have left there is some kid of a void…. |

urgency lurks in every nook and corner.......there is an an eerie sense of hurriedness in and around u……..wheather it’s instant success in the professional front…….leveraging up the corporate ladder……..instant love….instant companionship……..every nuance in life seems to be associated with “quick “ or rather “instant”…. even kids of today’s gen(my teeny-weeny cousins all of 8-10) seem to be in such a hurry to grow up!! They seem to know ..... maybe what I knew when I was in 10th grade or P.U.
wonder if this over ambitiousness or the mere “hurrying up” thru life is gonna be really fruitful……or is this bound to create more pandemonium in our lives……..perhaps it’s not just important to “be there” but savor every bit of the journey of “getting up there”!! |

| | summer of 69 | ] | Procrastination n laziness have gripped me soooooooooo hard that I’m beginning to feel stifled by the two. They’ve kept me from doing many a thing I've wanted to do!! I’ve been meaning to blog bout the events in the past two weekends……but alas…………. Well …..guess it’s time to give the two culprits a chill pill!!!
Weekends have been like real fun!! Last-to-last weekend(to be read as a fortnight ago!!!) Watched the movie BLACK with friends…..must say it’s a milestone in INDIAN cinema……that was followed by a school reunion at coffee-day!! Man…….the response was pretty good despite the last minute invites………was fun to meet up with few of the people after a span of 5-6 years……..most of us either heavier by a few pounds or taller by a few more inches or both……. T’was gr8 chattin bout the gud-ol carefree schooldays…….the plays we had enacted the……pranks played on teachers…….n generally catchin up with everyone……. The VIP guest was the C.E.T first rank of our batch Vikas.R (who’s currently in Bits Pilani)…….well we people of our batch never seem to get tired braggin bout this brain’s achievements………..
Last weekend was sporty n cool! Went to planet-x the Gaming hub on the outskirts of Mysore…….had a lovely time at the bowling alley(inspite of my humble, meager score)…. Burnt a slight hole in the pocket but the fun with friends is always worth more than a million dollars!!! Also attended the concert SAMYUKTA…….conducted by a pop fusion band of S.J.C.E……..was an ultimate revelation bout talent in our college……..must say these guys r amazing………fresh compositions,gr8 accompaniments garnished with loads of attitude felt like a cool lemonade offered to beat the scorchin summer sun………… they just drove the audience crazy!! The ‘tsunami’ composition was commendable for amateurs!!! Hats-off to them!!!
Awaitin many more such funfilled weekends…… well …….if not anything else I’m definitely prepared for one thing at the future workplace…….waitin for weekends!!! |

But now it’s been transformed into a beautiful place…….thanx to whosoever concerned. Started takin leisurely walks here n must say the view is absolutely breathtaking!!! The calm green lake……n the reflection of the sun that shimmers in the serene waters…the sky …. hich looks like a blend of shades that seems to change every quarter of an hour… The dense, shady trees growing luxuriously n the beautiful birds around make it look like picture postcard. Particularly this time of the year one can witness different species of birds which have migrated to this place…..( since my knowledge in ornithology is poor I’m afraid I don know the names of these birds!). Tiny birds perched on the tree-tops,long necked ones flyin to-n-fro pickin up tiny branches to build quaint little nests, some wading thru the expansive waters……. It’s an absolute delight for a photographer or an artist…. It is way better than any of the parks in the city(which r usually crowded n u tend to run into one another!!).
Well……wonder how long my tryst with walking wud continue ... just hope that the natural beauty of this place is preserved!! |

But I personally feel tht this does’nt really make too much sense! It’s just the flower vendors n the flambouyant card n gift shops who r gainin out of this “much ado about nothing”. It’s a total Lose Lose situation! be it for the single ones or the couples or the married!! Let me explain…..for the single ones it’s the day where every Tom , Dick n Harry has the licence to ask u if u don have a date….. Well for the couples it’s goin thru the ordeal of courtship all over again(the flowers n the chocolates…..) n for married its’ as if the anniversary was not enough(to add to all the other pressures!!!).
How can one compartmentalize n reserve all the feelings just for some day on the second week of feb?? how can one schedule the emotions and accumulate it all just for the V-day?? Don u think love is to be celebrated everyday ???
It’s all the business tactics n marketing strategies who capitalize on peoples emotions n feelings….. Hope I’m not soundin like a thourough V.H.P or bajrangdal activist here. Well sure enough the views here may be offensive to some but does’nt everyone have a right to his/her own views??? |

| | Rabbi's new score | ] | One of our family friends had dropped by the other day. This guy is currently pursuing his Phd at a coveted university in the U.S. We had a long conversation and few of the things which he told me were like reeelly thought provoking……… Here r some of the things which got me thinking…….
According to him the Indian education system has deceived him outright.(Btw he’s frm IITchennai). There’s absolutely no scope for practical thinking n innovation…….what he meant to say was tht we r never really encouraged to ask too many questions or try n expriment new things (I think tht point was definitely valid…..more often than not people who pose lot of questions r branded as”REBELS” n r discouraged….) He went on to say that Indians keep bragging about gr8 achievements in the fields of Mathematics n physics n other scientific fields……(like maybe the invention of Zero )but tht was ages ago…….We can’t continue to live in the past…. There is no innovative stuff done by us Indians perhaps comparable to tht done by eminent personalities like Aryabhata,C.V.Raman,Sir.M.Vishveshwaraiah etc……
He says that Indians r so used to do what they r told to do tht we hardly think “OUT OF THE BOX”. It’s not just managing a company well that matters but there needs to be a rich supply of INNOVATION n research oriented work! He also expressed his disgust at a part of the IT sector that is perhaps churning out a lot of wealth but is definitely, totally dependent on the U.S for it’s business……(US kai kottare???) Young, creative minds r being dulled by the mundane chores of the IT sector which is far frm challenging most of the times….
Don agree with all that he had to say……but definitely can’t brush it aside as an excuse of an IITian seeking greener pastures in the U.S!!!! Perhaps it’s definitely time to think out of the box!!! |

We had lots of time to catch the train back to our gud’ol Mysore. So… we lingered around M.G road for sometime. Went to B’lore central! It’s certainly happening! Café coffee day was comfy especially after a long day(madhu n deepthi will agree on tht one!!).
I was always of the opinion that b’lore is damn stressful….burstin at it’s seams….Pollution at it’s worst………but this time was completely swept away by the city’s “CHAMMAK”.well guess we’ll have a nice time atleast in the first few months…… Traveling in the train with frnds is certainly an added joy!
